Pursuing a Claim with a California Defective Drug Lawyer

Tradjenta (linagliptin) is a type-2 medication manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim. While the drug was only approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011, reports of adverse health risks have already begun to accumulate. As such, our California defective drug attorneys at The Senators Firm offer our support and experienced representation to patients who have suffered injuries and damages as a result of taking this new diabetes medication. Our legal team has spent years advocating on behalf of victims injured by corporate misconduct and unsafe medications, and we encourage all victims and families to learn more about their eligibility to pursue a claim and monetary compensation by bringing their cases to the attention of our firm.

Tradjenta & Adverse Effects

Tradjenta is an oral type-2 diabetes medication that works by regulating blood glucose levels. Although relatively new on the market, the FDA has already initiated investigations into the possible risks posed by the drug. Just as with other diabetes medications of the incretin mimetics class, Tradjenta has been linked to the following:

Pancreatitis & Pancreatic Cancer

Tradjenta is in a drug class known as incretin mimetics and functions by inhibiting DPP-4, the enzyme that degrades hormones that stimulate insulin production in the pancreas, thereby regulating blood glucose levels. Unfortunately, there has been evidence that links incretin mimetics to an increased risk of pancreas inflammation, or pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is also a risk factor for pancreatic cancer, which is a serious and life-threating form of cancer. Common symptoms associated with pancreatic cancer include jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), weight loss, abdominal pain and swelling, pale or light colored stools, dark colored urine, and others.

Thyroid Cancer

Medical studies have also found links between the use of Tradjenta and other diabetes medications and the development of thyroid cancer. The FDA has even issued a Drug Safety Communication for a similar diabetes drug known as Victoza® in response to lab studies that found increased rates of thyroid cancer in rats.
