Kaletra® Lawyer & Lawsuit

Kaletra (generic: lopinavir/ritonavir) is an oral solution that is used in the treatment of the infection caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Kaletra is designed to inhibit the progression of symptoms in patients infected with HIV. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently notified healthcare professionals of the severe, life-threatening complications associated with this drug in the treatment of premature babies.

If your child or a loved one has been injured by Kaletra, you should contact our lawyers immediately for a free confidential case evaluation. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and we can help.

What’s the problem?

On February 24, 2011, FDA approved changes to the Kaletra (lopinavir/ritonavir) Oral Solution product label related to toxicity in preterm neonates secondary to adverse events related lopinavir and/or the inactive ingredients propylene glycol and ethanol.

The FDA recently notified the healthcare community of the severe and potentially fatal health problems that have been associated with babies receiving Kaletra oral solution. The medication contains alcohol and propylene glycol, both of which have been linked to adverse health problems such as heart, kidney, and breathing complications. Because the side effects associated with Kaletra may pose a serious threat to the lives of newborn babies, the label is being revised to include a new warning. To view the new labeling, please visit the FDA’s website.
