On March 4, 2011 Unilever United States, Inc., in association with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced a limited recall of Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread due to reports of a Salmonella contamination.

Traces of Salmonella were detected in Skippy Reduced Fat Peanut Butter Spread and Skippy Reduced Fat Super Chunk Peanut Butter Spread after a routine sampling made by Unilever United States, Inc. As a result, Unilever is conducting a limited recall in cooperation with the (FDA), to remove the Salmonella infected product from store shelves.
