Hemet Assistant Principal Accused of Sex Crimes

Law enforcement arrested an assistant principal after she allegedly had sex with three high school students. According to The Los Angeles Times, the 45-year-old woman was arrested by Hemet Police on suspicion of several offenses, including sexual battery, abnormal sexual interest in children, oral copulation, and sending harmful/inappropriate material via an electronic device. The suspect was placed on administrative leave nearly a month ago. She is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment today.

According to a police statement, the woman allegedly had sex with three male students, but none of the acts took place on school grounds. According to news sources, the woman is currently held on $1-million bail. The Hemet Unified School District commented briefly on the incident shortly after the arrest. “We take these situations very seriously and have taken appropriate personnel actions in response to this arrest to ensure the safety of our students and staff,” the district stated.

Sexual Abuse in Public Schools

Statistics indicate that as many as 10% of children will face some form of sexual abuse at school. To prevent further abuse, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services offers parents and teachers a variety of resources, information, and educational tools to prevent and identify sexual abuse in public school.

Sexual abuse prevention starts at home. Parents should teach young children to say “no” to any inappropriate request made by an adult. Parents of older children should take time to discuss personal safety, rape, sexual transmitted disease, date rape, and other subjects related to sexual abuse at school – even if they feel uncomfortable talking these issues with their children.
