Chevrolet Impala Police Car Recall Lawsuit

With uncompromising durability and the ability to reach breakneck speeds, the Chevrolet Impala has quickly become one of the most popular modes of transportation for police forces across the United States. Subsequently, its sleek design has now become synonymous with law enforcement officials everywhere. Of significant concern, however, are recent reports that suggest particular components of these police vehicles have an increased propensity for structural failure. As a result, General Motors Co. has recalled more than 38,000 Chevrolet Impalas because the lower front control arms may fracture, increasing the risk of a potentially life-threatening crash.

If you or a loved one has been injured after driving in a Chevrolet Impala police car, you should contact our lawyers immediately for a free confidential case evaluation. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and we can help.

Chevrolet Impala Police Car Recall Lawsuit Overview

Designed and manufactured by Chevrolet, a subsidiary of General Motors Co., the Impala has become the symbolic automobile of police forces across the nation. The current model is powered by a 3.6L V6 engine with an estimated 302 horsepower and E85 capability matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine and Powertrain combination delivers ample power along with an EPA-estimated 28 mpg highway fuel economy. Complimenting the Impalas ample speed, are its uncompromising reinforcements. As such, the Chevrolet Impala is cheap to maintain and very durable, a combination that serves the police force very well.

Unfortunately, many passengers may be unaware that Chevrolet Impala police cars have a design flaw that can be potentially dangerous. As a result, General Motors Co. has recalled more than 38,000 Chevrolet Impalas because the lower front control arms may fracture, increasing the risk of a potentially life-threatening crash. The current recall, which does not include civilian Impala models, includes 36,413 cars in the United States and an additional 1,713 in Canada. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Chevrolet Impala police cars involved in the recall include those made in the years 2008 to 2012.

While no accidents have been reported yet, several law enforcement officials have contacted the NHTSA complaining about fractures in the control arms of their Chevrolet Impala squad cars. The increased propensity for fracture may place drivers at risk of experiencing a severe, life-threatening accident. A fracture of the control arms, which support a vehicle’s wheels, can lead to loss of control. In the event that a fracture does occur, you may notice some tire squeal and chirping upon turing at low speeds. If you have been in an accident in one of these vehicles, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries by filing a Chevrolet Impala police car recall lawsuit.
