Triad Alcohol Prep Pads Recalled Due to Possible Microbial Contamination

In what has become the strongest action to date by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), inspection officials implored H&P Industries, Inc. (Triad Group) to halt the production and distribution of all their drug products after the discovery of infectious bacterium agents.

After FDA officials inspected facilities of the Wisconsin-based Triad Group, they asked the firm to voluntarily stop producing and distributing its drug products because of severe concerns regarding contamination. A problem that has plagued Triad Group since 2009.

However, the recent scrutiny from the FDA stems from an investigation conducted by a Denver Colorado Children’s Hospital. Reports from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) claim the hospital detected traces of a bacteria called Bacillus cereus on Triad manufactured alcohol prep pads.

These contaminated pads were responsible for at least two severe infections in young children who were treated at the hospital. Further tests conducted by the hospital found that 40 out of 60 Triad manufactured prep pads tested positive for the bacteria.

Triad’s contaminated prep pads, along with swab sticks, are also being held responsible for the severe infections that killed a Houston toddler and damaged the heart of Donovan Postich to the point that he needed surgery.

As a result, Triad Group has announced a recall on the contaminated pads in question.
