New developments have cropped up regarding a new, reformulated version of certain USPLabs products. Previous versions of purported “dietary supplement” OxyElite Pro prior to the beginning of 2013 had contained DMAA. According to company representatives, OxyElite Pro is indicated to assist in the promotion of metabolic functions. Subsequently, increased functioning of the metabolic processes may allow consumers to burn a significant amount of calories, regardless of what they are doing. Additionally, USPlabs claims that OxyElite Pro is designed to suppress your appetite, increase your energy, and even improve your mood.
Dimethylamylamine (DMAA), the active ingredient found in OxyElite Pro, is responsible for the previously mentioned mechanisms of action. Dimethylamylamine is designed to give the user increased workout intensity, focus, and other effects associated with elevated adrenaline levels. When used correctly, OxyElite Pro may assist in the development of muscle mass and stamina while simultaneously reducing body fat.

Ambiguous Nature of DMAA
Misconceptions suggesting that 1,3-dimethylamylamine was a constituent of geranium species have their genesis in a single, non reputable, peer-reviewed journal of chemistry out of China. The report suggested that DMAA was, in fact, a natural derivative of geranium plants. However, this report has been refuted by many professionals and has no substantial evidence to back its claims. Officials at the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) have acknowledged that these findings are inconclusive and warrant more investigation.
A review of the chromatogram from the original paper revealed an inadequate separation of compounds for MS-library matches. Other issues with this report include significant concerns over the experimental conditions, the interpretation of data, the quality of data reporting, and the validation of findings.
John Travis, manager of clinical operations for NSF International and the AHPA analytical laboratories committee, in association with existing scientific literature, acknowledged that DMAA is not a derivative of the geranium.
Steven Dentali, AHPA’s chief science officer stated that “there are no known-published reports indicating that this is a natural product. Any labeling stating that it is naturally occurring in geranium, or any other natural source, would need appropriate scientific evidence to support it. None has yet been found in the public domain.”
