Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tire Recall Lawyer & Lawsuit

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., an innovative leader in the tire industry, developed Wrangler Silent Armor tires as a premium alternative to standard automobile tires. Their revolutionary design is capable of providing drivers with one tire that meets the demands of every road condition. However, Goodyear was forced to recall nearly 41,000 of its Wrangler Silent Armor tires due to an increase propensity for defect. The tires, manufactured in 2009, are currently being recalled because of their potential to tear unexpectedly and place drivers in severe, life-threatening circumstances.

Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tire Recall Lawsuit Overview

As a product of Goodyear, Wrangler Silent Armor tires were developed and distributed in 2009 to be sold as premium all-terrain light truck tires. Their unique design provides drivers with a satisfying on and off road drive, perfectly suited for pickups, vans and SUVs. Subsequently, all Wrangler Silent Armor tires are built to handle tough off-road conditions, provide a smooth on-road ride and generate traction in dry, wet and snowy conditions.

Wrangler Silent Armor tires use long-wearing, silica-blend tread compounds. These compounds are then molded into a multi-faceted symmetric tread design to blend on-road comfort with off-road and wintertime traction. In addition to the silica blend compound, Goodyear’s Durawall rubber compound is molded at the base of the tread grooves to increase resistance to stone/rock drilling. The tire’s internal structure includes an Armor Zone that consists of twin, high-tensile steel belts reinforced by a layer of DuPont KEVLAR cord to combine strength with comfort. The unique combination of these elements help to protect drivers from both on and off-road hazards.

Unfortunately, the use of these tires in the extreme conditions that they were apparently made for may coincide with sever complications. Their unique design may not be able to hold up to what they were designed for. A small number of tires within this population may experience a partial tread area separation under certain severe usage conditions, resulting unexpected tears and dangerous crashes. Due to the increased propensity for failure, there is currently a Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor tire recall affecting approximately 41,000 tires. If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident due to these tires, contact a lawyer at The Senators (Ret.) Reasons for Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Tire Recall

According to a February 22 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Goodyear acknowledged that the “use of these tires in severe conditions could result in partial tread separation which could lead to vehicle damage or a motor vehicle crash.”

The letter was most likely in response to the influx of adverse events reported by drivers who had purchased Wrangler Silent Armor tires. On August 1, 2011, Matthew Smith and Kerrybeth Hall sustained fatal injuries when the left rear Silent Armor tire on their truck defected, causing the tread to separate from the supportive structure. Subsequently, the defective tire cause the truck to roll over, killing both passengers inside. In response to this tragedy, as well as a comprehensive analysis of damage and warranty claims, Goodyear made the decision to conduct a nationwide Wrangler Silent Armor tire recall. The company said that it plans to send notices of the recall to customers by March 22.
