OxyElite Pro Recalled Items

Which OxyElite products have been associated with liver illnesses?

On November 10, 2013, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that USPLabs, LLC has initiated a recall of several OxyElite Pro dietary supplement products. The recall comes as a result of questions about safety in the wake of reports of life-threatening liver illnesses, including at least one death, that are being investigated by FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Products involved in the recall include:

  • OxyElite Pro Super Thermo capsules
  • OxyElite Pro Ultra-Intense Thermo capsules
  • OxyElite Pro Super Thermo Powder

Recalled OxyElite Pro Products Associated with Liver Damage

The FDA has reviewed a number of reported liver illnesses – including several cases that required liver transplants and one reported death – in consumers who used these products in Hawaii. Additional cases of liver damage and acute hepatitis have also been found in other states. You can find more information about the recalled supplements, including specific product UPC numbers, on the FDA press release.

Other Potentially Dangerous USPLabs Supplements

The FDA’s investigation into the underlying cause of liver damage is still ongoing, but some health authorities have pointed to an ingredient in OxyElite Pro known as aegeline. This substance was added to OxyElite Pro after a former ingredient, DMAA, was removed because of health concerns and FDA’s warning to the company that the substance caused OxyElite Pro to be illegally “adulterated.” Aegeline is also reportedly used in another USPLabs supplement known as VERSA-1. Although VERSA-1 has not yet been recalled and while no concrete evidence has been found that aegeline is the cause of liver damage, the FDA is advising consumers to not use any supplements labeled VERSA-1 or OxyElite Pro.
